范裔风与乔可欣自幼青梅竹马，两小无猜，随着范父与乔母的相继离世，两个情窦初开的年轻人发誓永不分离。丧偶的乔父结识女明星沈美凤，对她一见倾心，不久将其迎娶家中，沈还将前夫的一双儿女天磊和天丽带进乔家。从此，原先平静的家庭暗流涌动。后母的到来很快显示了她恶毒的用心，她不仅打范家的主意，还把可欣与裔风赴美留学的计划也搅和了。裔风独自走了，送别的机场留下了可欣的无限眷恋。几年后，裔风回国，可欣做好了出国留学的准备，此时的天磊爱上了她，但可欣心里只装着裔风。她在去游乐场见裔风的路上，目睹了不愿见到的一幕......。Disarmingly realistic in its depiction of the realities of frontier life, Heartland is a strong antidote to the cliches of traditional Westerns. This semi-documentary slice of life is based on the diaries of Elmore Randall Stewart about her days on the Wyoming frontier in the early 20th century. It's a strongly feminist statement about a woman raising her small daughter alone and scrapping for a living by working for a shy Scottish rancher. Director Richard Pearce brings an endearing touch to a film that is helped greatly by the dazzling cinematography of Fred Murphy. Conchata Ferrell and Rip Torn star in this small film that substitutes veracity for a high-powered plot. Pearce worked as a cinematographer on Woodstock and other documentaries before making his directorial debut. Winner of the 1980 Berlin Golden Bear at the Berlin Film Festival。
