大龄青年阿福（毛永明饰）品行端正，却一直没找上对象。乡下姑娘阿秀（夏菁饰）妈因为欠了张贵方（凌云饰）的债，阿秀被张胁迫至阿福家，明义上是给阿福介绍对象，实则想利用阿福家做“据点”从事非法生意。阿秀不忍欺骗忠厚的阿福，但摄于张贵方威胁，一直难以开囗。来串门的于虹（孙海虹饰）是阿福早年同学，她的几次欲言又止引起阿福关注。原来，于虹的男友出国后抛弃了她，生性要强的于虹最终选择了出国打拼。阿福单位会计江燕萍（严荷芝饰）穿梭于几个单身汉之间，弄得几个男人为此争风吃醋。张贵方拿阿秀做诱饵，把她又介绍给暴发户胡斌（沈伟良饰），阿秀不堪胡的流氓嘴脸，急切盼阿福搭救......。George Harvey Bone is a composer in early 20th century London, who is under stress because he is writing a piano concerto.
