被医生宣告自己只有半年寿命的田渊公平（冈田准一饰）决定在死之前要干一番惊天地泣鬼神的事业。于是他召集来高中因棒球结缘的一群好友，他们分别是最正常的中入太（樱井翔饰）、不务正业的佐佐木兆（塚本高史饰）、小酒馆的老板（佐藤隆太饰）及胆小却有英雄梦的内山（冈田义德饰）。五人决定组成一个怪盗团，命名为“木更津猫眼”。于是不靠谱的五人组开始了他们的怪盗生活，展开了一段段有趣、怪诞的故事，也阴差阳错成为了侠盗，无意间帮助了很多人。这个夏天注定不平凡，而公平的生命也正在一点点流逝之中…… 本剧切合棒球的九局制，以九集的形式播出，每一集也设置成上下局，是名编剧宫藤官九郎的代表作之一。。Comedy about the proverbial genie who comes out of a bottle (a table lamp in this instance) to serve his new master.
