"Daughters of the Dust" tells the story of a family of African-Americans who have lived for many years on a Southern offshore island, and of how they come together one day in 1902 to celebrate their ancestors before some of them leave for the North. The film is narrated by an unborn child, and ancestors already dead also seem to be as present as the living.。Bernadine是看管死囚的监狱长，多年来在高度设防监狱中尽忠职守地执行死刑。沉重的工作令她变得麻木，与丈夫的关系也一日比一日疏离。但当她与年轻死囚Anthony建立了感情后，她内心的情感再次被唤醒，迫使她面对复杂与矛盾的道德问题，在对与错之间挣扎和反思。死刑是否合乎道德？行刑者在法律之下获准杀人又是怎样的一回事？。
